Location of Velddrif and The River House

Velddrif is a small town on the West Coast of South Africa, about 2km from the Berg River mouth. Originally an agricultural area, today Velddrif is often used as a name for a much larger area, including the small town of Laaiplek and the riverside development of Port Owen.

These towns have become popular destinations for holiday travellers over the years, because of the mixture of friendly hospitality, rich fynbos and wild flowers, a wide and tranquil river, and of course the vast beaches of the West Coast.

The River House is situated right at the border between Port Owen and Laaiplek, on the Port Owen side.

Entering Velddrif on the West Coast Road (R27) from the Cape Town side, take the first left after the bridge. Continue on this road for exactly 1.47km, and take a left (this is the first turn-off after the main Port Owen entrance). Take another left and follow this road around a bend, all the way to the river, where you will find The River House on your left.
